Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha says he has turned down the chance to represent the senior national team of Nigeria after he was called up by head coach of the team Eric Chelle, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Born in the Netherlands to a Togolese father and a Nigerian mother, the 22 year old who openly spoke about this desire to play for Nigeria as a 17 year old when he made his breakthrough at Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam confirmed the u-turn on his decision.
A goal return of 14 goals in 27 games in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg caught the attention of their sister club Chelsea , who are said to be keen on reaching a pre contract agreement for him to join them for the 2026-27 campaign.
As expected it also opened debate about his international future and in an interview with Ziggo Sports he confirmed he has made his decision known to Nigeria that he wants to play for the Netherlands, where he is also a youth international.
“I have already been called by Nigeria, but I just want to play for the Netherlands”, the forward revealed.
