A lot of people were surprised when the list of players called up for the Super Eagles friendly game against Russia was made public, but Cyriel Dessers was missing from it.
Dessers was the star of the Unity Cup tournament win with a goal against Ghana in the 2-1 win and an assist in the 2-2 draw against Jamaica in the final, which they finally won 5-4 on penalties.
However the 30 year old wasn’t listed in the team even when it was revised for the June 6th game against Russia in Moscow. The decision led to a lot of questions about his exclusion from the team.
Recent revelation has it that he asked to be left out of the game because he is getting married on the same weekend that the game is fixed for. He explained to Eric Chelle who gave him his best wishes ahead of a very important stage in his life.
