World football governing body FIFA won’t be in anyway involved in the Super Eagles upcoming friendly tournament in England, and also the friendly game against Russia in June, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Usually FIFA used friendly games in determining the ranking of nations during the international break, but it won’t be the case with the Super Eagles games in the four team tournament in England where they will be up against Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana and Jamaica.
The reason is that the tournament falls outside of the prescribed window by FIFA for international friendly games, which is from the 2nd of June. It also means there will be a problem of insurance in the event that any player gets injured during the game as FIFA who usually pay the salary of any player who gets injured while on international duty won’t be involved.
Also the game against Russia in June won’t be graded by FIFA because of their current suspension from international football owing to the invasion of Ukraine. The game will also suffered the above mentioned stand by FIFA on insurance since they are also not involved.
However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) accepted to play in the games because it will afford head coach Eric Chelle the chance and opportunity to try fringe players , and also get to know more about his team before the resumption of games in the world cup qualifiers.
