The sporting director of LaLiga side Sevilla says their decision to sign Nigeria international forward Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer in the summer was a mistake, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Iheanacho left the club after six months to English Championship side Middlesbrough on a loan deal after failing to make his mark. The decision to sign him in the first place has been largely condemned by the fans of the team.
Addressing the issue , Victor Orta who drove the process of the signing of the 28 year old admitted that it was a gamble which didn’t go as planned. He said it’s largely why another striker in fellow Nigerian Jerome Akor was signed in the January transfer window.
“I want to clarify that the first two strikers were brought in as complements, to be practically the third striker, because there was a starter like Youssef and a striker who later appeared, like Isaac,” Orta said.
