Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has defended his formation in the Super Eagles 1+1 draw against Zimbabwe in the world cup qualifiers in Uyo on Tuesday, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Chelle saw his team suffer a last minute collapse to draw the game 1-1, further slimming the chances of Nigeria making it to the world cup in 2026 as they are now six points behind the leaders South Africa.
The coach was asked about if his formation in the came can be faulted as the reason behind the draw, and he refuted it saying it was the perfect formation but they didn’t take their chances, when they carve the opponents open.
” On another day we could have scored ten goals and Moses Simon would have gotten at least four assists. You can’t blame the formation because we went behind using the diamond formation but we didn’t punish our opponent”, he said.
” We had chances to kill the game, and maybe I made a mistake with my substitutions, but the formation was okay to make the best use of the attacking talents at our disposal”, he concluded.
