Head coach of Zimbabwe national team Michael Nees has revealed the secret of his team’s 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the world cup qualifiers in Uyo on Tuesday , OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Zimbabwe scored late in the game to secure a 1-1 draw further denting the hopes of Nigeria making it to the world cup next year. The result also see his team move one point close to Nigeria, who are on seven points.
South Africa race clear of the group as leaders with a 2-0 away win over Benin Republic, but fear a possible point deduction for fielding an ineligible player in Teboho Mokoena in the 2-0 win over Lesotho last week.
Shortly after the draw against Nigeria, Nees who maintained that his team’s dream of qualifying for the world cup can’t be said to be dead, if Nigeria still have hope of qualifying fired a salvo at the Super Eagles defence.
” We noticed that the defenders of Nigeria were dead. You see the weather here and the way Nigeria played with intensity very early into the game I know they can’t sustain it. When we noticed that the defenders were tired, we made offensive substitutes to take advantage. If the game had gone on for another five minutes we would have won because your ( Super Eagles) defenders are dead”, he said.
