Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen has praised the tactical decision made by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle during the 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Eguavoen who was the immediate past coach of the team albeit in interim capacity all through the qualifiers for the AFCON failed to beat Rwanda over two legs, drawing away before losing 1-2 in a dead rubber game in Uyo in November.
Still in his role as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Eguavoen was in Kigali to watch Chelle’s baptism as coach of the Nigerian team and he was impressed by the approach used by Nigeria in the game.
” I like what I saw particularly the way they started the game with a formation that has Samuel Chukwueze playing behind the two forwards in Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon. I won’t say I am surprised because it’s something I know he can do”, he said in an interview with Canada based Nigerian journalist Wale Ajayi.
” The good thing is that we won and now we have to switch attention to the game against Zimbabwe especially after South Africa 2-0 win over Lesotho. We will stay focused and not get carried away with this result in Kigali”.
