Captain of the senior national team of Nigeria William Troost-Ekong says the newly appointed coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle has given the team fresh ideas on how to prosecute today’s world cup qualifiers game against Rwanda.
Chelle will be in charge of the team for the first time when they take on the Amavubi as they bid to get their world cup qualifiers campaign back on track against the group leaders, before yesterday’s game between Benin Republic and Zimbabwe.
Benin Republic threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 picking up a point that takes the top of the group until at least after today’s round of games. Nigeria go into tonight’s game looking for a their first win after four games.
Ekong who will be playing in the qualifiers for the first time this time around, after missing the first four games says they will approach the game with a different mindset owing to the new ideas from Chelle.
“I’m not gonna sit here and tell you what our tactics are gonna be. Um, but, yeah, of course. We have new ideas, and I think whenever you have a new manager for both teams, it’s always a situation that players want to improve themselves show themselves to the coach. They want to give their best side, so I think there’s been a new level of focus.
“The guys respect the coach very much, and we’ve seen what he did with the previous team.
“And, like, I said, we are just trying to understand as quickly as we could in three training sessions. What is expected from us so. Okay, so work in progress. And, um, yeah, hopefully it will be a continuous growth.
“For this first game it will be a test straight away, maybe quite early in us working together, but I have, like, I said, I had a full confidence in the team and the technical crew”.
