Nigeria international defender Zaidu Sanusi has made his return from injury after spending a year on the sidelines owing to the injury he picked up last season at his Portuguese side FC Porto, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The 27 year old ruptured his ACL in February last year, and after two games for the B team of Porto which were meant to help build his fitness and sharpness. He made his first team return yesterday in their 0-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Cup.
He was introduced in the 61st minute of the defeat and came through without any setback. He is now expected to be involved on Wednesday when they take on Nacional in the league. Porto are currently second on the table, just one point behind the leaders Sporting Lisbon.
His return to full fitness also means he will be available for selection by the new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle, when he calls players up for the world cup qualifiers games in March.
Chelle was appointed yesterday as the substantive coach of the Super Eagles on an initial short term deal, which will cover the period of the world cup qualifiers that will end in October.
