Ajax forward Chuba Akpom have been handed a first time call up to the senior national team of Nigeria for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers games against Libya, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Super Eagles will look to consolidate their top spot in their group when they take on Libya in a double header billed for the 11th and 15th of October respectively. They are currently top with four points after beating Benin Republic 3-0 and a 0-0 draw away to Rwanda.
Interim coach of the Nigerian team Austine Eguavoen has already sent invitation letters to players picked for the game, and after sending out as many as 34 players provisional invitation he has now trimmed the number to 24.
Akpom according to sources made the list of 24 and it will be his first invitation since his switch of nationality from England to Nigeria almost five year ago. He represented England from U-16 to U21 level making a total of 39 appearances scoring 18 goals in the process.

He has already found the back of the net four times in 12 games in all competitions this season. Last season which was his second with the Dutch giants the 28 year old 15 goals in 36 games.
We also gathered that a new goalkeeper to join the duo of Maduka Okoye and Stanley Nwabali has been called up. The name was however not made known to us as at the time of this report.
The list will be made public after the conclusion of this weekend’s game in Europe.
