The fan who racially abused both Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior and Samuel Chukwueze formerly of Villarreal has been handed a one-year prison sentence and a stadium ban as punishment, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Racism has been a major issue in Spanish football with rival fans using it to target opposition players during games. The Spanish FA has also been accused of not doing enough to curb the scourge.
This time around the culprit was identified and taken to court, where he was made to face trial and his sentence made public by a court in Spain earlier today.
The offender was handed a six-month sentence for abusing Vinicius at a match between Mallorca and Real Madrid on February 5, 2023, and an additional six-month sentence for racially abusing Chukwueze at the same stadium on February 18 that year, in a match between Mallorca and Villareal. On top of that prison time, he has received a three-year Spanish football stadium ban.
