As players of the senior national team of Nigeria get set to work under a new coach when the team regroup for the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers in September, a former player of the team have sounded a warning to whoever gets the nod as the new coach of the team.
Nigeria will name a new coach before the games after the departure of Finidi George from his role following a poor showing at the world cup qualifiers where they were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa, before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic.
Speaking on the team AFCON 2013 winner Efe Ambrose says the main headache the coach will have is getting the strikers of the team to score goals. He said while many look at the defence, it is the attack which has failed to blossom as expected.
” Many people like to put the blame on the defence but it is the attack with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and co that is really struggling. You can excuse Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon for their shift, graft and contribution but not the others”, Ambrose told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
” Boniface is yet to score for the Super Eagles and even though we know he is highly talented. It hasn’t worked so far because of what I can say is a lack of balance in style and how the players are deployed in attack. It is where the new coach should focus more”, he concluded.
