The search for a new coach for the senior national team of Nigeria has generated lot of interest from coaches around the world, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nigeria are on the lookout for a substantive coach for the senior national team of Nigeria after the disappointment of the last round of games in the world cup 2026 qualifiers, where the team were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic.
Head coach of the team Finidi George resigned from his role after the announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that they will be getting an expatriate coach for the team. That announcement has opened the door for interested coaches to send in their application for the job.
” We have 15 coaches pushing for the job at the moment. Most of them are willing to take what Finidi was earning previously, so money is not an issue here. I think the former coach of Cameroon Toni Conceição is still the favourite but no talks yet with his camp”, a source at the NFF told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
” I saw the report about talks with a Belgian coach. That is true but for now if we are to go by the initial report of the technical committee then it’s Conceição. It’s the safest and wisest thing to do but this is Nigeria and you know how things can be at the top”, he concluded.
