The long awaited decision on who will be the next coach of the senior national team of Nigeria is being held up over a decision on who will be the assistant coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
A decision to hand the job to an indigenous coach has been taken by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the account of the fact that they couldn’t provide a guarantee on regular salary payment for their preferred choice, who happens to be a foreigner.
As at the time of this report, the major obstacle in concluding the process is on who will be the head coach and assistant coach between the duo of Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George.
While the NFF are pushing for Finidi, who is the current interim coach to continue in his role, the minister for sports senator John Enoh is leaning towards Amuneke.
That impasse is responsible for the delay, but it is now possible that an agreement will be reached in the coming hours with sources pushing Amuneke to shift ground and accept to be an assistant for a third time.
