The search for a new coach for the senior national team of Nigeria could end up with the erstwhile coach Jose Peseiro returning back to his role, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Peseiro left his role as coach of the senior national team following the expiration of his contract in February, a few weeks after leading the team to a second place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
His position was declared vacant and interested individuals applied for the post, but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hasn’t made any positive progress on a preferred option to take his role permanently.
Feelers from the camp of the ministry for sports has it that talks have been held with Peseiro’s representative on a possible return to the team, and both parties appear to be willing to reach a compromise although the decision is said to be unpopular with the hierarchy of the NFF.
President of the NFF , Ibrahim Musa Gusau has no faith in Peseiro’s abilities hence isn’t willing to entertain any thoughts of a return for the Portuguese, however the fact that the minister seems to be pushing could force him into rethinking his stand.
