The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the list of approved stadiums for the final rounds of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, OGN reports.

In a sheet made available to our editorial team, the Moshood Abiola stadium where the Super Eagles have played their last three home games including two in the AFCON qualifiers wasn’t among the stadiums approved.

CAF instead approved only the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo as the ground for the senior national team of Nigeria, who will be rounding up their qualifiers with a game against Sao Tome and Principe at home.

Players of the senior national team of Nigeria will no doubt see this news as a welcome development as they have several complaints about the bad playing surface of the stadium in Abuja.

Despite their reservations about the pitch in Abuja, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) insisted on Abuja as the home ground of the team. Even coach of the team Jose Peseiro made a case for the stadium in Uyo but the NFF paid deaf ears to his cries.

However with the latest decision by CAF they will now be forced to return back to Uyo, where the Super Eagles enjoyed a good run at home during the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 AFCON.
