Rizespor of Turkey midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu who captained the Nigeria U23 team to a 4-2 aggregate win over Libya yesterday is firmly in the plans of coach of the senior national team Gernot Rohr.
Azubuike who was the vice captain of the last Nigeria U23 team that played at the Olympics in Rio put up an impressive performance in both games against Libya.
He showed same form he has been exhibiting for his Turkish side Rizespor since his return to the league after his shock move to Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the summer from Yeni Malatyaspor.
Rohr while speaking on players he has lined up to boost his midfield named the hard working midfielder but said he allowed him play for the U23s on the request of coach of the team Imama Amapakabo.
” Azubuike would have been with us but we have to consider the request of the coach of the U23 who wanted him as well. He will get his chance with us when we regroup for our next game if he maintain his form for his Turkish side “.
