Leon Balogun who last week returned from the injury that kept him out of Nigeria’s ill fated AFCON 2017 qualifiers back to back games against Egypt, endured an evening of delight and despair with his German side Mainz 05.

Balogun was a part of the Mainz 05 team that let slip a two goal lead to lose 3-2 to FC Cologne in an entertaining German Bundesliga game played on Sunday evening.

The 27 year old Nigerian put Mainz 05 two goals up in the 49th minute for his first goal for the club he joined in the summer but watched helplessly as FC Cologne recovered to win the game by 3-2.

Last season while playing in the second division of Germany league he earned a reputation for himself as a goal scoring defender scoring four times for Darmstadt 98 who eventually got promoted to the Bundesliga.
