Austrian side Austria Wien have moved sharply in replacing Alhassan Ibrahim who left the club after the expiration of his loan deal with another Nigerian in Bright Edomwonyi.

Alhassan joined Portuguese side Maritimo on a three year deal following the expiration of his season long loan deal and the club today announced the signing of 23 year old Nigerian forward Edomwonyi as his replacement.

“I’m glad that I’m here now, Austria Wien is a good club – that’s a good step for me. I want to help the team and will do my best to achieve our goals”, Edomwonyi told the official website of the club.

“The infrastructure is really great – with the new training pitches and the stadium – that’s really motivating. I already know some players from the current Austria team, I know the league very well, that’s an advantage. ”

Edomwonyi has experience of playing in Austria as he defended the colours of Sturm Graz from 2015-2017 before leaving for Turkish side Caykur Rizespor, who were relegated at the end of his first season at the club.

He returned back to Austria on loan to Grazern in January this year before his current transfer to Austria Wien. A club which is slowly becoming a hub for Nigerian players.

Two seasons ago, Olarewaju Kayode made his mark at the club before leaving for Manchester City before the start of last season and the club brought in Alhassan Ibrahim from Nigeria Professional Football League side Akwa United on loan as his replacement.
