The sensational turn of form in Ahmed Musa has taken a lot of people by surprise but not the coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr who said he has always believed in the talent of the 25 year old.
Musa scored a brace for Nigeria in the 2-0 win over Iceland, which kept their hope of qualifying for the round of 16 alive ahead of their final group game against Argentina later today.
The forward was starting his first game at the 2018 World Cup against Iceland, and coach Rohr has hinted that he will start against Argentina in today’s game, which a win will guarantee progression for Nigeria regardless of what happened between Croatia and Iceland in the other game in the group.
Viewed as a false inclusion in Nigeria’s World Cup squad after his struggles at English Premier League side Leicester City, Musa is carrying the hope of Nigerians in today’s game against Argentina, where he will lead the attack alongside Kelechi Iheanacho.

“He worked very hard to get back to the shape he is now. Last year he had a difficult situation at Leicester City and I told him to go to a club where he would play more matches. And he returned to Russia rejoining CSKA Moscow”, Rohr explained.
“And I visited him to see him in training. He was fighting to get back to his old form. So he deserves to come back to the team. He has big competition in his position in the team and I hope his confidence will make him do better against Argentina.”
