As first reported by Owngoalnigeria.com Torino midfielder Joel Obi who is back in the national team set up for the first time in four years will start tonight friendly game against Poland in Wroclaw.
Obi was picked to start ahead of he deputy captain of the Super Eagles Ogenyi Onazi, a move which took many by surprise, but Owngoalnigeria.com has an explanation on why coach Gernot Rohr made the move.
The Franco-German coach of the Nigeria national team is keen to give players who has impressed him in training a chance to fight for their spot, with the game against Poland the first of the two tune up games lined up before his list for the World Cup is released in May.
Although Obi has been very impressive as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, the 26 year old followed up his display in their first full training session with another stellar showing in yesterday’s showing but the decision to hand him a start wasn’t hinged on them.
