It’s no longer news that ex Nigeria international striker Victor Obinna Nsofor has left Premier South African League side Cape Town City, six months after joining them.

The signing of the 30 years old who has turned out for Inter-Milan, West Ham and Chievo in the past was viewed as a coup by followers of the PSL, but the move has not worked out.

Upon his signing it was announced that the Nigerian is signing on a one year deal, but club Chairman John Comitis revealed the deal has a clause, which says his contract will be reviewed after the first six months.

“Obinna had a six-month contract plus [an] option to continue and he couldn’t get his family here because of paperwork, and we decided that maybe it’s best to part ways,” Comitis told KICK OFF.

“We had a one season [contract] to it but it was to be reviewed after six months and he didn’t settle. His wife couldn’t get the visa to come here.”

His first six months at the club didn’t go as planned with just a goal to his name from 14 appearances, and despite the efforts of coach Benni McCarthy who was his teammate at West Ham back then, to retain him, the chairman insisted on the Nigerian leaving after his failure to deliver.

“Chairman John Comitis agreed with Victor from the beginning that we would do a review after six months and he didn’t feel that it was working for us‚” coach Benni McCarthy told TimesLIVE.

“There are no hard feelings between us. He understands. I felt he was getting fitter‚ better and stronger but I don’t think the chairman was convinced.”
