The caretaker coach of Leicester City Michael Appleton has given a hint on why it took Leicester City big money signing Kelechi Iheanacho some time before his first goal for the club.

Iheanacho joined Leicester City for a fee in the region of £28m from Manchester City, with Man City inserting a buy back clause of around £40m in the deal.

However the forward took a while to reach same height that made him an instant hit at the Etihad, but yesterday he proved his clinical nature in front of goal with a well taken goal in their 3-1 win against Norwich City.

He also set up Islam Slimani goal which put them 2-1 up before he was substituted to a rousing applause from the fans, who were already questioning the rationale behind his signing following a poor start to the season.

Caretaker coach Appleton speaking after the game explained why it took the 21 year old a while to get going, citing the setback he endured when he picked up an injury in his first pre season game for the club and other fitness issues.

“With Kelechi [Iheanacho], he picked up an injury before the season started, which obviously made things difficult. You could tell once he scored the goal tonight that he grew in confidence and he played a massive part in the second goal tonight, which was good.”

“Great for Kelechi to produce what he did tonight. Been stop-start for him, but he’s grabbed his opportunity tonight”, he told LCFC TV.
