Super Eagles of Nigeria were not the same team they were when their captain John Obi Mikel was substituted in their 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.
This was made known by the coach of Cameroon Hugo Broos who lamented the fact that his players failed to make the most of his removal by at least pushing more men in attack.
Mikel was substituted after the hour mark with on loan FC Porto midfielder Mikel Agu taking his place , but Agu failed to exert same authority as Mikel hence paving the way for Cameroon to dominate the game and finally got the equaliser.
” We didn’t create much in the first half, even though we had more of the ball than Nigeria. They scored from a mix up in our defence, a goal we could have avoided “, Broos said.

” In the second half we came on strong after some substitutions, and it gave us balance particularly in the midfield. We should have taken advantage of the weakness in the midfield of Nigeria later in the game”.
