After fending off offer from Hamburg in January, Belgium top division league side Genk have moved swiftly to tie their young Nigerian defender cum midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to a new deal.
Ndidi’s contract was set to run out in the summer of 2017 but the Nigerian signed improved terms on a new deal now schedule to run till 2020.
Speaking shortly after signing the extension, the young Nigerian who has one senior national team cap to his name said he extended his deal with Genk as he believes he still has to develop further and at Genk he has playing time which might not be the case if he chooses to move to another team or league.

“I still have a lot to learn, they are areas I need to improve upon and at Genk I get to play regularly so that help him to improve in my game which might not be the case if I go elsewhere” He told Het Belang Van Limburg.
This season he has evolved into a defensive midfielder from his traditional role as a central defender and that has helped him in featuring in 22 games in the league and also a goal to his name in the game against Zulte Waregem, a 2-1 win they picked up on the 15th of January.
