The impending transfer of Nigeria international forward Cyriel Dessers to Greek side AEK Athens from Scottish side Rangers isn’t progressing as expected, OwnGoalNigeria.com understands.
Since joining Rangers he has scored a total of 51 goals in two seasons and won the league’s top scorer award last season, but the club are open to his exit in a bid to raise cash to bolster other areas of concerns in the team.
30 year old Dessers has already agreed personal terms with the former Greek champions but talks between both teams for a transfer fee hasn’t been agreed since the start of last week.
There is still a significant difference in their valuation of Dessers, who has won his spot back in the senior national team of Nigeria after impressing at the recently concluded Unity Cup tournament in England.
He scored in the opening day 2-1 win over Ghana, and had an assist in the final 5-4 penalty kicks win over Jamaica after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Dessers will be hoping for his first competitive appearance when the team converge for the resumption of games in the world cup qualifiers in September.
