Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has explained the reason why his team has conceded identical goals in three consecutive games, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria forced host Russia to a 1-1 draw yesterday in a friendly game, but just like it was in the game against Ghana and Jamaica respectively the Nigerian team conceded a goal that came off a cross from the right.
Semi Ajayi turned the ball into his own net in an attempt to cut out a cross after right back Bright Osayi-Samuel was beaten by a run in behind. The goal is similar to the three goals conceded at the recently concluded Unity Cup in England.
Chelle was asked what could be responsible for the identical nature of the goals conceded in the last three games at the post match conference.
“The game was indeed difficult. We had a few moments, and the Russians did too. I think that two strong teams met. We will make changes, we will work on playing under pressure, because this problem has already arisen in the last three matches”, he explained.
“We need to learn to cope with the opponent’s pressing – this was especially noticeable in the second half, when we were practically left without the ball. This is thanks to the Russian footballers.”
