Bundesliga players have voted Victor Boniface among the worst players of last season in a pool conducted by German media Kicker following the conclusion of the league, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface had a whirlwind start to his career with Bayer Leverkusen playing a pivotal role in their league and cup double, which they achieved by ending the season unbeaten. Their only defeat came in the 0-3 loss to Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.
He failed to match the height of the previous season making the club to almost ship him out in the January transfer window to Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia. However despite agreeing terms for his transfer and also booking a medical the Saudi Arabia side pulled a plug on the deal and instead signed Jhon Duran from Aston Villa for more money.
The Nigeria international ended last season as a bit part player at Bayer Leverkusen and managed to score just 11 goals in 27 games in all competitions. A far cry from his tally of 21 goals in 34 games the previous season.
In their yearly vote Kicker who usually conduct the pool using anonymous survey of players in the German top flight, saw the Bayer Leverkusen striker finish third, with 6.9% of the total ballots cast.
Top of the flop list was Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha with 13.4%, while Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt polled 10.2%.
