Newly invited Super Eagles defender Felix Agu of German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen is expected to make his debut when the team begin their campaign at the Unity Cup in England, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Agu was included in the list made public by head coach Eric Chelle but with an attached statement that he is only going to train with the team, however that has changed in the last 72 hours with FIFA giving the go ahead for him to play for Nigeria after representing Germany at youth level.
The German FA wrote to FIFA explaining that the 25 year old only played in two friendly games for their U21 hence doesn’t need a switch of nationality process since they weren’t competitive games. Agu is now free to play for Nigeria.
He played in 25 games this season in all competitions, with 22 coming in the league despite missing three months due to injury. He ended the season with three goals and one assist.
” I am very comfortable as a full back either on the left or on the right. I can also play comfortably in the midfield but I am a full back and it’s my favorite position”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
” Maybe my strength is in the area of tackling, reading and intercepting plays. I love to go forward as well but I know too well that my first job is to defend and I have worked really well on it”, he concluded.
