Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle is considering adding FC Basel winger Philip Otele to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in England, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Chelle has been scouting the 26 year old since his move to FC Basel in the January transfer window, where he helped them to the league title with 8 goals and four assists in 17 games.
He is also in frame for another title when they Biel-Bienne on the 1st of June in the Swiss Cup final, a game that will potentially keep him out of the Super Eagles squad for the tournament which will run from May 28th to 1st of June.
There is the likelihood of Samuel Chukwueze who missed AC Milan’s game last weekend against Roma due to a groin injury missing the game, and Otele is among the names being considered.
However if club duties fail to make him available then St. Pauli winger Dapo Afolayan who ended the Bundesliga season with three goals and two assists will be considered as an alternative.
Afolayan has already had talks with Chelle who assured him that he is in his plans, but not in the immediate before the recent doubts over Chukwueze’s availability opened the door for his consideration.
