The announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the approval of the upcoming Unity Cup friendly tournament by FIFA means foreign based players of the team are now free to take part, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Two days ago, the NFF officially announced that the tournament which will feature Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, Nigeria and Jamaica has gotten the approval of FIFA, which is needed because of the game falls outside of the window for international games.
‘‘ 2025’’ gets FIFA approval. Football governing body Reminds all teams that the Laws of the Game must strictly be applied for these tier-1 matches”, NFF posted on their official handle.
The announcement has free up foreign based players of the team who were skeptical of taking part due to the fact that they could run into issues with their clubs, particularly if they get injured as there will be no insurance for the tournament.
Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle will also make another squad decision by including foreign based players, who were initially not in the running due to the non approval by FIFA.
We can exclusively reveal that the likes of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Paul Onuachu, Joe Aribo, Wilfred Ndidi and Ola Aina will be part of the team with this latest favorable twist of events.
