Fresh from helping English League One side Wrexham gain promotion to the English Championship with 19 clean sheets Arthur Okonkwo isn’t in a hurry to commit his international future to Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Trained at Arsenal the 23 year old who came off age this season in League one has represented England at youth levels but he is still eligible for Nigeria at senior level with his father a descent of the West Africa country.
Head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle is a huge fan of the giant shot stopper, and wouldn’t mind handing him a spot in his team to challenge the options he has in the team at the moment, particularly as he will be playing in the English Championship.
That desire is said to be too early according to sources in the camp of the former Arsenal first team reserve goalkeeper, although they didn’t rule out a move in the future when he would have been established as a starter in the English second tier.
The option of pledging to Nigeria will be there as long as he isn’t in the English senior setup, and he will rather take his time to study the terrain properly before a decision on playing for Nigeria especially as he has age on his side.
