Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has lined up an approach for 21 year old Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins to play for his team, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Born to a Nigerian father and a Polish mother, the 21 year old has been consistent for the German side this season playing a total of 29 games so far, but he hasn’t found favour in the eyes of the senior national team of Germany after representing them from U15 to U21 level.
He is still eligible for Nigeria and Chelle is well aware of the fact that he isn’t seen as an option by coach of Germany who has options ahead of him in the center back role, the player himself confessed that he has no idea on his international chances under the coach
“There hasn’t been a discussion with Julian Nagelsmann yet. But it would be a lie if I said I’m not interested in the 2026 World Cup,” Collins was quoted as saying by MSN.
“As I’ve emphasized, I always set ambitious goals for myself. At the moment, however, several other things are playing a major role for me. ”
Chelle plans to sell the idea of playing for Nigeria as a way to help him actualize his dreams of playing at the next world cup, but with the Super Eagles present position in their world cup qualifiers group it’s going to be difficult.
The idea will be to get the qualification campaign right, before an approach to most players on the list of the coach. Meaning it could take place as early as August with South Africa expected to be deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player in their game against Lesotho.
If as expected they are docked points, it will narrow the gap with the Super Eagles to just three points and with both teams set to meet in South Africa, it will be the headline game of the group.
