Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has denied reports in some section of the Nigerian media suggesting that he won’t honor any further invitation, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Tella made his debut for Nigeria last year in the 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the world cup qualifiers, but missed out on selection for the AFCON before returning for the friendly games against Ghana and Mali respectively.
He was an unused substitute in that game, and since then he hasn’t honored subsequent invitation by snubbing an invitation to be a part of the world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic last year citing family reasons and recently missed the games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively with an unknown injury.
It created an avenue for people to speculate that he is probably unhappy with the way he was treated by former coach Finidi George when he didn’t get to play in any of the friendly games, and possibly had decided to stay away.
” It’s not true in any sense. Tella was shocked to see such reports. He was injured and you can see that he missed two straight games for Bayer Leverkusen after the international break. He won’t say no if he is called up by the Super Eagles coach for subsequent games”, his representative told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
