Nigeria international defender Bruno Onyemaechi has won his first ever league title with the crowning of Olympiacos as champions of the Greek league yesterday following a 1-0 win over AEK Athens, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The win saw them extend their lead to ten points over second place Panathinaikos after 29 round of matches, it was their 48th league title, but their first in three years.
Sealed by a goal from Ayoub El Kaabi in the 55th minute, it was an historical moment for Onyemaechi who only joined the team in the January transfer window from troubled Portuguese side Boavista, where he has spent the last three seasons.
Capped 12 times by Nigeria at senior level, the 26 year old expressed his joy at his first ever league triumph with a post on his social media handle ” Loving every moment of it, first time champion in my career thank you Olympiacos FC for this amazing feeling”, he posted.
A member of the Super Eagles squad to the last AFCON where he didn’t get to play a minute throughout the tournament. He regained favour and started in all of the qualifiers for the successful AFCON campaign.
He was however an unused substitute in the team’s last game in the world cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe which ended in a 1-1 draw, four days after coming on as a substitute away to Rwanda in a 2-0 win.
