Head coach of Atalanta Gian Piero Gasperini says Nigeria international Ademola Lookman can be captain of the team before the end of the season, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The coach who had a fallout with Lookman after he missed a penalty in their defeat in the UEFA Champions League against Belgium side Club Brugge made this known after their 4-0 win over Juventus yesterday in the Serie A.
Lookman delivered an all round impressive display and capped it with a goal before he was substituted with ten minutes left to play in the game. He was subsequently hugged my Gasperini on his way to the bench. A far cry from when he was subbed off and got snubbed by the coach two days ago.
“When a group spends 300 days together in a year, people can have different views,” Gasperini said at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.
“Lookman became a fantastic player when he improved his perception of the team. He used to have a more individual approach. He wasn’t a bad guy, but he mostly focused on the individual. He made Atalanta great, and Atalanta made him great. I am convinced he can be the captain before the end of the season.”
