Charlotte FC has acquired highly rated Nigerian wonderkid Emmanuel Uchegbu from AS Trencin, prevailing over competing interest from Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
The MLS club successfully convinced the Nigerian U-20 wonderkid that a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) would be advantageous for his growing career development.
The player will be transferring from AS Trencin, a Slovakian club with a strong reputation for developing exceptional talent. Uchegbu joined AS Trencin just over a year ago from the famous Nigerian talent factory, GBS Academy, and he quickly became a fan favorite due to his impressive runs, dribbling skills, and ability to ghost his way past defenders.
Uchegbu who is nicknamed the Nigerian Arjen Robben delivered some strong performances in Slovakia and attracted significant interest from Ajax and PSV, with KAA Gent also vying for his services. However, Charlotte FC ultimately secured his signature.
Contract negotiations are complete, and the promising winger has put pen to a multi-year contract.
Uchegbu expressed his gratitude to his Trencin coaches and fans via Instagram and indicated his eagerness to begin training with Charlotte FC.
The acquisition of the 20-year-old will be seen by many as a successful transfer coup by Charlotte FC, who are managed by former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager Dean Smith.
