According to UK based Nigerian journalist Shina Oludare Arsenal young sensation Ethan Nwaneri is open to representing the senior national team of Nigeria.
Born in England to parents of Nigerian descent, Nwaneri is seen as the next big thing to happen to Arsenal owing to his he has stepped up this season to the demands of playing for the first team.
Nwaneri who is a full fledged youth international for England is still eligible for Nigeria at senior level, but many believe England hold the ace largely due to the fact that he is already in their system.
Quoting a family source, Oludare said the 17 year old who has scored nine goals this season will make a decision pending on the nation that first approaches him to play for their senior team
“A family source close to Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri tells me that the youngster will honour whichever country—Nigeria or England—approaches him first. What is the NFF waiting for?” UK-based Nigerian journalist, Shina Oludare posted via X.
When asked about the move to get the talented left footer who is the youngest player to has ever played in the English Premier League, the DG of the NSC say they will assist in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the coach Eric Chelle in pursing the youngster.
“We will assist the NFF in whatever way to secure Nwaneri’s services for the Super Eagles,” said Bukola Olopade, Director General of the NSC via Guardian.
Meanwhile a team source said Chelle has a meeting planned out in the summer with the representative of Nwaneri and his family members to properly detail how he entails to make a super star with the Super Eagles.
