Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy won’t accept the offer of switching his international allegiance to the senior national team of Nigeria following an approach from the coach of the team Eric Chelle.
As we first reported, the coach met with the 29 year old who is of Nigerian descent and is still eligible to play for the senior national team of Nigeria despite representing England at U21 level.
Eligible for Republic of Ireland as well, the winger who has five goals and nine assistst this season in all competitions isn’t keen on playing for the Super Eagles, despite the possibility of playing in the 2026 World Cup.
According to Craig Hope of UK based outlet Daily Mail, Murphy will concentrate on maintaining his impressive club form and has not given up hope of one day earning his first senior England cap.
His decision has been conveyed to the coach of the Nigerian team and his decision was accepted, but told him the door is always open if he has a change of heart.
