One cap Nigeria international forward Josh Maja has suffered a huge setback in his bid to force his way back into the Super Eagles setup following the appointment of a new coach in Eric Chelle, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The 26-year-old is second-highest scorer in the Championship this season, with 12 goals from 26 matches for West Brom, behind only Norwich City’s Borja Sainz. That run in front of goal will now be halted for a while.
West Brom announced that he will undergo after which a period of rehabilitation, which they say will take several weeks before he returns back to full match fitness. They say he is likely due back in March.
It means he has missed out on a chance to impress Chelle, who will likely be looking into options as backup for top striker Victor Osimhen when he rolls out his first set of call ups for the world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe receptively in March.
Victor Boniface who led the line in the absence of Osimhen during the qualifiers for the AFCON failed to make the most of it, leaving the door open for others to be given a chance.
