Head coach of German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen Xavi Alonso have provided an update on the fitness of Nigeria international forward Victor Boniface, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface returned from international duty with Nigeria suffering from a thigh injury, which will likely rule him out for the rest of the year as we first reported.
Speaking ahead of their DFB-Pokal clash against Bayern Munich tomorrow Alonso provided an update the recovery of the 23 year old, who was in the news for the wrong reason this week when he was pictured using his phone while driving at an alarming speed.
He revealed that Boniface is currently training individually and not yet with the ball, and refused to completely ruled out that the Nigerian will make his comeback this year.

“We have hope. Boni is on the right track. We have to check every two or three days to see how he’s recovering. But it’s still too early to say whether he’ll be back before Christmas”, the coach said.
