Fresh from having his competitive debut for the senior national team of Nigeria Ihefu FC of Tanzania defender Benjamin Tanimu claims he is studying offers from teams in top European leagues, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Tanimu who made his competitive debut for the senior national team of Nigeria against South Africa in the 2026 world cup qualifiers and followed it up with another start away to Benin Republic says he had offers and has picked his next destination already.
“I have a concrete offer from a European team, though I can’t disclose the team’s identity yet. They are good offers, and I’ll leave it to those involved to work out the details. With time, everything will be made known to the public,” he told SportsBoom..
He went further to debunk reports that he had trials with Spanish side 4th division side Lleida Esportiu. ”
“Let me make this clear. Contrary to media rumours, I didn’t go for any trials in Europe. I’ve already made up my mind and know my next team. I wanted a new challenge after years in the Nigerian league, but it’s important to take it step by step and not rush.”
Speaking on his senior national team career he admitted that things hasn’t gone as planned with the team in the world cup 2026 qualifiers, but says all hope of making it to the world cup isn’t lost yet despite the team sitting in 5th place, four points behind the leaders Rwanda.
“Playing for Nigeria is a significant milestone in my career and a major boost. It’s every player’s dream to represent their country at the highest level,” Taminu said. “I’ve learned a lot of new things and blended with new people.”
“It hasn’t been an ideal start, and it’s very disappointing that things haven’t gone as planned, but we’ll keep fighting for our country, our families, and ourselves. We want to be at the World Cup, and I’m sure we are capable of turning things around.”
