Head coach of the senior national team of Benin Republic Gernot Rohr who led his team to an impressive 2-1 win over the senior national team of Nigeria has given his opinion on the Nigerian team, two year after he was sacked as coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The coach who took over the reins at Benin less than a year ago has his team firmly on course for a spot in the 2026 world cup as they are on the same points with group leaders Rwanda, unlike Nigeria who are currently 5th in the six team group.
Since his exit a total of three coaches in Austine Eguavoen, Jose Peseiro and now Finidi George have handled the team, but with less success compared to when the German was in charge.
Speaking on the Nigerian team that he coached for five years , the coach who was unceremoniously sacked in 2021 said the team hasn’t changed much since his exit, hence not much has happened by way of making them a force.
” Still a team with very good talented players with many of them coming into the team during my time as coach. Not many things have changed since I was asked to go. So you can say they have been super but it’s still a very good team”, the coach said.
” Very few teams in Africa can boast of players like the Super Eagles but you have to use the players correctly. At the AFCON they did well playing a style that didn’t bring their best to the fore. I think they are still a team with the chance to make it to the world cup”, he concluded.
