The leading candidate to be named the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Emmanuel Amuneke has been branded as overated by Tanzanian journalist Ernest Junior, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The role of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria is vacant following the exit of Jose Peseiro upon the expiration of his contract in February. Two weeks after the leading the team to a second place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amuneke is the leading indigenous coach to take over as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, following the screening of the list of interested candidates by the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Speaking on the viral news of the former Nigeria U17 coach getting the nod to be in charge of the team on the recommendation of the technical committee of the NFF, Ernest reacted to a post on the record of the coach during his time with Tanzania posted by foremost Nigerian radio station Brila FM.
Brila FM posted the managerial stat of the former Barcelona winger, which shows that he won just two games at the helm as coach of Tanzania, losing six including all their group stage games. In Egypt where he handled El Makasa he lasted just two months as coach winning none of the three games he handled. The team lost twice and drew once.
So far his only managerial success came as coach of the Nigeria U17 team, the team he led to the world cup glory in 2015 winning 7 games, drawing twice with three losses. His step up to the U20 with the same team ended with failure to make it to the U20 AFCON.
” Mowiz did you see why I was laughing when I saw the report that Amuneke is favourite to be Super Eagles coach using his record at Tanzanian?. Well he won just two games and lost six as said by Brila FM. Credit where due he was in charge when we made it to the world cup, but it was largely due to what other teams did in our group not solely down on us.
” Ask any Tanzanian they will tell you we have seen a whole lot progress since he (Amuneke) left. Honestly Super Eagles deserve someone better except they don’t want to be at the next world cup”, he concluded.
