The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been ordered to make the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro remain in his post, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
According to Al-Hayat, per Awras, Peseiro has accepted the offer put forward by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), who are on the hunt for a new man to lead its national team forward after parting ways with Djamel Belmadi.
The publication said he has already sent his acceptance letter in writing to the president of the Algerian FA (FAF) Walid Sadi, and an announcement per the report will be made public next week when his contract with the NFF would have totally elasped.
Upon hearing the news, the minister for sports senator John Enoh swung into action and wondered why the coach who led the team to their best position at the Africa Cup of Nations will be allowed to go.
He instructed the NFF to improve the offer made to the coach to $70,000 a month as opposed to the $50,00 he was offered for his extension, the same as the salary he was on before taking the Super Eagles to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they lost 1-2 to the host in the final.
Peseiro has been told to put on hold his plans to travel to Algeria with a new proposal set to be forwarded to him for his approval. Meanwhile it could open the door for Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic, who was their top choice for the job to be named as the coach.
According to reports after initially failing to meet up with the 48 hours deadline he was given to accept the job, the lawyer of the coach called the FA president at the expiration of the deadline to say his client is willing to take up the job.
With Peseiro now having second thoughts he Petkovic will likely be named as the new coach of the Algeria national team, while Peseiro consider other options top of which is to remain as the coach of the Super Eagles.
