The senior national team of Nigeria were brought back to earth by the Syli Stars of Guinea who secured a 2-0 win, a day after the Super Eagles thrashed a selected team of school boys 12-0 at their camp in Abu Dhabi.

Nigeria started the game the brightest but were pegged behind in the 14th minute with Aguibou Camara scoring for the Guineans. Six minutes later a chance was provided for Nigeria when Sadiq Umar was fouled in the box.

Moses Simon stepped up but saw his penalty saved by the Guinean shot stopper in the 20th minute. Umar was again the tormentor in chief and his header narrowly missed the mark shorty after the penalty miss.

Samuel Chukwueze had the last chance of the half to draw Nigeria level but his curler from the right sailed slightly wide as the half time whistle soundee with Nigeria trailing 0-1.

Four minutes after the hour mark, Guinea made the Super Eagles pay for their wastefulness with the second goal of the game, further exposing the defence of Nigeria.

The goal forced coach Jose Peseiro into a defence reshuffling with Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem subbed off for the duo of Calvin Bassey and Frank Onyeka.

Alex Iwobi was also subbed on for Raphael Onyedika in a bid to shore up the midfield and possibly rescue something from the game, which has Guinea comfortably in the lead.

That didn’t happen as Super Eagles suffered a huge disappointment losing their last strong test before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on the 13th, with Nigeria set to be in action against Equatorial Guinea on the 14th.
