The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro was among the spectators who watched the Nigeria U20 team in their latest friendly game which ended in a 4-0 win over Capital City Football Academy.
Samson Lawal opened scoring for the Ladan Bosso tutored lad before left full back Solomon Agbalaka slammed home the second goal with a powerful header from a corner kick. Team’s new striker Adams Olamilekan made it 3-0 to put the game beyond the reach of the Abuja based side.
As at the time of filing in this report, details about the scorer of the fourth goal for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations bound team were sketchy. There was however no such issue with the presence of coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.
Peseiro was visibly present at the team’s training ground where the game was played and after the game, the Portuguese coach explained the reason behind his decision to watch the team ahead of the friendly game against Zambia.
“I came here to watch their training and to meet with the players. I came to show support and then on Friday I’ll be looking forward to watching the team against Zambia”, he told press men after the game.
Pressed on if he thinks players of the team can make the step up to the senior national team of Nigeria, he said it is possible but it’s a step at a time insisting for now they should be focused on winning a spot in the final list of players for the U20 AFCON.
“Yes of course, now they play, they must put in their best for the U-20 and fight for a place at the AFCON” he stated.
