Per several reports in Norway 20 year old Belgium top division side Gent have completed the signing of a relatively unknown Nigerian striker Gift Orban from Norwegian side Stabæk.

According to TV 2’s information, Stabæk has agreed with Belgian Gent on a transfer of the forward in a deal that is worth around €3m. Personal terms have also been agreed.

TV 2 also claimed that a 15 percent sell on clause has been inserted into the striker’s deal. A move that was brokered by his Nigerian agent Atta Aneke, who took him to Norway six months ago.

Orban was top scorer in the Obosligaen last season with 16 goals for Stabæk and it earned him the move that has now made him the most expensive player ever who only has experience from the Obosligaen which is the Norwegian second division.

Stabæk moved up to the Eliteserien, but will start the series in April without its top scorer. Orban’s development has gone at rocket speed. Last winter he was on trial in Stabæk, before he had to return home because his residence permit expired.

In May, he returned to Bærum with an extended residence permit and a contract until the end of the year. The agreement was extended in August to cover the 2026 season.

Now he is leaving the country in what is an adventurous deal for Stabæk, who did not pay a transfer fee for the player and sold him for over NOK 35 million (€3m) after just over six months from signing his first contract.

It is not the first time Stabæk has sold to Gent. In 2020, the Belgian club picked up centre-back Andreas Hanche-Olsen from the Bærum club. He stayed for just over two years before he was recently sold to German side Mainz.
