Victor Osimhen is among three players of Italian Serie A side Napoli who will likely miss the team’s first game in the group stages of the Europa League.
The decision of the Nigerian forward to travel to Cape Verde, a country on the UK travellers red list due to coronavirus could see him miss out on the opening game against Leicester City in England.
England requires players coming from red zones to quarantine for at least ten days before they can resume their normal lives leaving Osimhen at the mercy of the British authorities.
It’s the same situation for his teammates, the duo of Kalidou Coulibaly and David Ospina as they would have spent just ten days upon their return from a red zone, three days short of the days required by the UK government to avoid quarantine.
According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Napoli are in frequent contact with UEFA to solve the issue, although it looks unlikely that the UK government would be willing to make an exemption for these players given the precedence they have set so far.
