Yesterday the senior national team of Nigeria had their first full training ahead of Friday’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers game against Liberia at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
OwnGoalNigeria.com witnessed the session that had twenty of the 29 players expected for the game with the duo of Alex Iwobi and Jamilu Collins exempted from the latter stage of the training.
Maduka Okoye missed the session but two goalkeepers in Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi were in attendance. Four players namely Zaidu Sanusi, Joe Aribo, Paul Onuachu and Chidozie Awaziem are yet to join up with the team.
We pick the five players who were impressive during the course of the one hour, forty five minutes session held under the supervision of head coach of the team Gernot Rohr.
Kelechi Iheanacho was arguably the star of the session, the Leicester City man scores two well taken goals, the first of which was a one time shot from a headed pass by Osimhen who was also a handful for the duo of Leon Balogun and William Ekong.
Osimhen and Iheanacho were swift in their movement and severally dragged central back pairing of Balogun and Ekong out of position. It was no surprise that their team ended up as winners with both players getting on the score sheet.
Bologna midfielder Kingsley Michael was a class act all through the session as he was strong in duels, neat in possession and also distributions. It was his well weighted long pass from his half to Osimhen that started the move to the scorcher scorer by Iheanacho.
Terem Moffi was another who was lively and deadly all through. He took up promising position from which he scored a goal and his hold up play was also impressive.
Nantes of France winger Moses Simon showed why he is the top assist man for Ligue 1 side Nantes with several telling balls into danger areas for his teammates to finish. He was also very useful in defence as he provided cover for Ola Aina who played behind him as the right back.
